Parasitic control
We carry a large variety of products to keep your pet free of fleas, ticks and intestinal worms.
Preventative health care
One of our biggest goals is to keep your pets healthy and happy for many years to come. Preventative medicine involves education on the many ways to achieve this goal, including programs for parasite control, annual vaccinations, specific care for senior pets, diet and weight control, dental care, and an annual wellness exam to assess your pet’s level of health.
Vaccinations
Vaccinations are essential for your pet’s continued good heath, as they can prevent a great variety of serious illnesses. We will recommend a vaccination protocol based on age and history for your pet.
We recommend that vaccinations start at 6 weeks of age for puppies and kittens.
Microchipping
Our hospital uses the Home Again Microchip System for pet identification. The chip is the size of a grain of rice and is inserted underneath the skin. The i.d. number and owner information is then registered in the Home Again Registry. If a pet is lost and recovered, the chip can be read by any agency or veterinarian who has a microchip scanner and the owner can then be traced.
Surgical
The doctors at Chesdin Animal Hospital perform many routine surgical procedures such as spaying and neutering, as well as a variety of other minor and major surgery. Our patients are closely monitored during surgery by well-trained Animal Care Technicians and specialized monitoring equipment.
We recommend pre-anesthetic blood testing to help rule out problems that cannot be detected on examination. This is especially important for our senior patients.
Pain management is an important part of our surgical protocol. Our patients are closely monitored following surgery and pain medications are given as necessary to ensure their comfort.
Dental
Maintaining good oral hygiene for your pet is not only about fresh breath and a happy smile, but it is extremely important to reduce the risk of infections that begin in the mouth, spreading throughout the body and affecting such vital organs as the liver, heart, and kidney.
Dental procedures are usually performed under general anesthesia for the comfort of your pet and to ensure thorough cleaning. Our dentistry includes ultrasonic scaling which removes tartar and plaque, and polishing to provide a smooth surface. Diseased or fractured teeth may need to be extracted, and usually require antibiotics to prevent the spread of bacteria.
